After more than a decade, Sri Lanka finally has a fresh, island-wide snapshot of its people. The Census of Population and Housing 2024 provides the first comprehensive view of how our population has shifted since 2012 – in size, age, and where we live. This Superset-powered dashboard is my attempt to make those numbers explorable, visual, and useful for anyone from policymakers to curious citizens.
Why the 2024 census matters
The 2024 census was conducted between October 2024 and February 2025, marking the 15th national population census in Sri Lanka. It offers updated insights that are critical for:
- National planning and budgeting across health, education, and infrastructure.
- Understanding aging, fertility, and regional imbalances in population growth.
- Local-level decision-making by provincial councils, municipalities, and development agencies.
My aim is to give planners, researchers, journalists, and students a single place where they can quickly explore Sri Lanka’s new demographic baseline and download views that support their work.
This dashboard does not attempt to reinterpret or challenge the official statistics. Instead, it focuses on accessibility: turning static PDFs into interactive, filterable, and reusable visuals that can support evidence-based conversations about Sri Lanka’s future.
